Tissue Procurement: Human bone tissue is collected from cadaveric donors within 24 hours of death or as surgical specimens from a relevant procedure. The tissue is harvested from the ends of the tibia and femur from both clinically “normal” donors and from those diagnosed with rheumatoid and osteoarthritis. Proper consent and serological information is obtained on all specimens.
Bone Cell Processing and Cryopreservation: Harvested bone tissue is carefully dissected away from surrounding tissues and washed thoroughly to remove blood and debris. An enzyme treatment is applied to isolate primary bone cells. The cells are preserved with a cryoprotectant (DMSO) and frozen in a manner to maintain cell viability. Cryopreserved cells are shipped frozen with dry ice via overnight currier. |
