Background
Articular Engineering, LLC is an Illinois based biotech company focused
on the development of tissue engineered products designed to advance
the current treatment options for articular cartilage and intervertebral
disc disorders. Much of the product portfolio is based upon the patented “Alginate-Recovered-Chondrocyte” or “ARC” technology.
The company was established in 1999 by a group of orthopedic surgeons
and researchers affiliated with Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical
Center in Chicago. Company principals are leaders in the fields of Orthopedic
Surgery and Biochemistry. Offices and labs are located on the north side
of Chicago, in Northbrook Illinois.
Vision
Combining the fields of engineering, biology, and medicine, Tissue Engineering
holds an enormous potential to benefit patients and the economy by improving
treatment options, providing jobs, and reducing the cost of medical care.
Grown-to-order tissue may some day be used to repair complex tissues
or even organs, and perhaps help to alleviate the need for donor organs.
Although some of these advancements are decades away, in the not so distant
future orthopedic surgeons will be able to repair damaged cartilage or
arthritic joints using tissue-engineered products. AE’s objective
is to become a leader in the field of orthopedic cell-based therapy.
